The water's fine! Come on in!

That's a neat trick Shannon!

All in!

We had the pleasure and honor of meeting and photographing the Twin Falls County Search and Rescue Team. They were doing training exercises at Dierkes Lake this week. Kim Shelly-Hurley, one of the team members  and PADI Instructor, took the time to share some information about the Team and the Magic Valley Dive Center in Twin Falls.

To be come a member of the Search and Rescue Team, divers must be at least "Rescue" level or higher. They receive and respond to many different situations and must train to prepare for any contingency. Training usually occurs at least four times per month with each training time 2-8 hours. They prepare for deep diving, search and recovery, underwater navigation and many other skills. They train in Hidden Lakes approximately six times a year. Hidden Lakes provides a much deeper water area, up to 80 feet, while Deirkes is usually 40 feet deep. They also train in other environments to stay prepared.

According to David Scantlin, dive team member, the gear weighs roughly 60 pounds and during summer training heats up quickly while out of the water.

Kim also shared with us that they have recreational diving devices sunk in Dierkes Lake including a toilet, shark (a replica!) and 2 boats.

Kim and David also are co-owners of Magic Valley Dive Center. They opened their doors January 2011.  They offer Discover Scuba parties for ages 8 and up and prefer groups of at least 4 for a successful party. Cost is $25 a person and they provide all the equipment.

They also offer all levels of PADI Open Water certifications and any equipment needed to dive anywhere in the world. Cost to become PADI Open Water certified is $375.00. All equipment is provided for the class. After certification, divers decide the type of diving they want to participate in to determine the type of equipment they will need.

Magic Valley Dive Center is located in River Adventure Toys at 701 Second Ave. S. , Twin Falls, ID 83301 (208)735-8697, or found on the web at www.mvdivecenter.com
