A bit of history about Flag Day and how it came about. Flag Day was originally celebrated by a select few communities in the United States in honor of the official adoption of the United States Flag in 1777. Starting with BJ Cigrand, a school teacher in Fredonia Wisconsin, who arranged for his students to celebrate "Flag Birthday" on June 14, 1885. It wasn't supported nationally until May 30, 1916 when the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson, established June 14th as the official anniversary date of the Flag Resolution of 1777. Flag day was celebrated by various communities for years after, but it wasn't until August 3, 1949 that June 14th was designated National Flag Day by President Truman, and was signed as an Act of Congress.
It is clear here in the Magic Valley that we have a lot of pride in our country. The United States Flag could be seen all over the valley today. Nearly every business, and many homes had Old Glory flying high and proud for all to see.
